Way Over DUE!

Well Hello and Happy Tuesday. Do you even know how many times I have thought about blogging...since umm...my last post on Nov. 3rd? All the time. For some reason putting the pen to the paper just wasn't happening for me and I had tons of things to get done. The Christmas season was a huge success for my little "Dodd It Up" business. I am so grateful and feel exhausted! Did I mention that just as I am way over DUE in blogging, another little dodd will be DUE this July :) My heart is overflowing. Ive been pretty sick since I found out...just like with Owen and I'm hoping I won't be as sick as I was with him until 33 weeks...that was just not. cool. It's worth it though...I guess I would take a million sick days and end up with a healthy baby in the end :) The nausea has made it definitely hard to get back into a groove and start using my creativity again...but I think a few more orders are in the works so I will have to get the ball rolling. It's good for me. I need a kick in the butt sometimes!

Here's a look at what has happened over the past couple months on my blogging hiatus...pictures are worth more words than I can muster at the moment.

Happy Thanksgiving!

We had a lovely, relaxing thanksgiving with family. So many things to give thanks for.

Merry Christmas!

We began decorating for Christmas...sorry for the bad photos...I just love this time of the year!

Did some baking for my auntie and believe me these are the easiest snickerdoodle bars - and
SO DELISH!
p.s. I think that was supposed to be a "were" instead of "was" - oops!

Dodd It Up had some very important orders to get done and boy was it fun!

I got around to trying some pinterest crafts on my own time too!

And finally got up the chicken wire frames that I have been wanting to do in the dining room...now all we have to do is paint the walls...wishful thinking on my part!

The Christmas and New Years season was filled with so much joy and love. We loved seeing family and got the chance to unplug a bit and really focus on the meaning of the season. The reason we are all here. After becoming a mom Christmas just has a painted a new perspective for me. God was so willing to send his only Son to be born so he would eventually die...for. us. Sometimes the most simple statement of faith has so much more depth.
Merry Christmas Morning! Happy Birthday Jesus!

We also had to say goodbye..well more like "see ya on face-time!" to our lovely and dear friends who recently moved to Texas. There last day in town was Christmas eve - and I would lie if I wasn't tearing up that last Christmas Eve service that Seth lead worship. Just such wonderful people and so close to our hearts. We miss them so much already but are so excited to see how God will use them in there new place!

Until Next Time! Have a wonderful Week!

THANK YOU!

Happy Monday! So last week I decided to make a Dodd It Up business page on Facebook and I just am so flattered by the responses. I have taken 5 orders already and shipped my first one officially as of today!

Maybe it is because I have a hard time believing that people would actually like and buy (still can't believe) my creations and for that I am truly grateful. As a stay at home mom -budget is tight and with these little orders I can help (as small as it may be) our family out a little, plus do something I love. I get to stay home with my sweet boy and be creative...I am very blessed.

SO THANK YOU

Here's a look at some of the projects I'm working on...I know I've posted them online but I might as well blog about them too! They are made-to-look-like chalkboard canvas prints - which means they are permanent - you can't erase like a chalkboard, but I love the look. Tonight we are finally going to go to home depot so my wonderful husband can finish helping me make some wood frames for the flat canvas! I'm so excited about this project - I think it will really finish the look!

I will always take personal orders and I've changed the prices to be more up - to date on the blog. You can see the prices here.

Have a wonderful week!
PS Here are some scetches of some projects that I'm working on now...have you heard of the song called "My Lighthouse" by Rend Collective...you should click the link - it's pretty awesome!

Fall and Doodles

Happy Monday! Man I am seriously sucking at this blogging thing lately...things always come up as soon as I sit down at my computer to post and well, I can't say I'm sorry because life happens and I might as well enjoy it :)

My first "Doodles with Dodd" class was FANTASTIC! The kiddos were adorable and we had a great time making our own tic-tac-toe rock game. I'm planning on doing an art/craft class for kids up to 10ish every couple of months, $20 a student! I heard that there are some adults who are interested in a craft class too so maybe that will come in the future too! Anyway, it was a blast and I even got a visit from some former students of mine who drove over an hour to come. So GREAT!

I think they all had fun and I definitely did! Look forward to maybe a Christmas craft class in the future! Dates TBA!

On to other news...we got family pictures taken and I have to just brag a little that our little O is seriously darling and we are just so in love with him! Check out Katie James Photography - she's awesome!

The Dodd household has been trying to decorate for fall and force the weather to feel more like fall...it isn't really working, but I hope the weather starts to cool a bit and stay that way.

Being Three is the Way to Be!

Phew! Finally able to post! I just went through the near catastrophic event of having no space on my computer which meant I couldn't download any pictures...my awesome husband helped me download to a hard drive and all is well with the world...silly I know!

A couple of weeks ago I got the great pleasure to help and be apart of two different 3 year old birthday parties! It was so much fun and I am so grateful for them asking me to help make their child's day special.

Party 1: It's a Great Day for a BEEday Party!
The first party was for an adorable little girl who had a "Bee" themed party! I made Oreo cupcakes with yellow "beehive" cream cheese frosting, a "Happy Birthday" bunting banner, and a large chalkboard. (This was my first customer that actually bought a chalkboard from me - design was included)!

I had so much fun and the theme was adorable!

Party 2: Start your Engines! Calling all Firemen!
The second party was a fire fighter themed birthday party for my adorably handsome (don't mean to brag) God-son Will who also turned three! I added some decorations with two chalkboard signs and cupcake toppers! Will's awesome mom made delicious CLEAN (all good & healthy stuff) cupcakes and an adorable banner that read "Happy Birthday Sweet Boy." I helped with the cupcakes by making some simple butter-cream frosting.

All photo credit goes to Emily - Will's very talented mama and designer at Orange Verb.
(I wish I had half her photography talent!)

What a wonderful weekend filled with so much joy and birthday love! Happy birthday to two of the sweetest three year olds I know! If you are thinking about having a party...please contact me and I be sure to help you dodd-it-up!

A Baby Shower

My mom and I had the honor of hosting a very special baby shower for one of my dearest friends who I have known since kindergarten. I'm so excited for her and her husband as they are expecting their first little baby - a girl - Stella! We decided on a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star themed - based on the fact that Stella's name means "star" and we thought it just couldn't be more perfect. Since I have a love for decorating and party throwing...and since my mom taught me well...we made a pretty good team! The shower was one of those things that we put a lot of heart into because we just love Laura so much and are so excited for her new little family. I decided on the color scheme of gold and pinks...with lots of glitter and girly lace and some burlap - I tried to get the vintage look - but added in some tulle just because it's cute and girly and I couldn't help myself!

The Front Entrance!

I painted gold dots and the letters on a burlap banner found at Michael's. The wreaths were homemade with about 12 tulle pom poms tied on. I can't have a party without my chalkboards...I love how the sign turned out!

Come on in and let's see the rest!

The Living and Dining Area - Present Opening Area!

I decorated the area with another chalkboard and some glittery star wands I made out of wooden skewers that I painted gold and added hand cut stars....and of course some little girl shoes to add the perfect touch! (Little girl shoes are the CUTEST) Also for more decoration I re-used some gold circle garland I had made for my brother's grad party and since they were gold it worked perfect and added a little dimension!

The Back Yard - Drink Station

I made my first ever ripped fabric garland for the backdrop of the drink station...I used an old white sheet that I had for filler and added a bunch of burlap, tulle, and lace...turned out really pretty and Laura might even use it for decoration in Stella's room...even better!

My husband cut me some little chalkboard boards out of leftovers that we had...I added some twine and they worked perfect for the pink lemonade and iced tea.

On the other end of the drink station we set up a little tree that guests could clip wishes or advice for Laura before and after baby Stella comes..it turned out pretty cute once more and more were clipped on! (notice the baby shoes...too cute!)

Eating Area...for 60 People!

We ended up having 2 small tables, one medium table, and one really long table to accommodate for such a large crowd..it was so much fun having so many people! I loved the long table. We used rented tables and table clothes and napkins, as well as, rented mason jar glasses. I added a burlap runner to the tables, pink straws in the glasses, hand made doilies that were my great grandmothers (she had SO MANY), and adorable diaper cakes on cake stands to give it a little height. Oh and I can't forget the little girl shoes as cake toppers...finished them off perfectly!

For the flowers my mom had huge hydrangea bushes in her yard that were flowering like crazy and she cut them off and they looked so beautiful and went with our theme so wonderfully. We used all sorts of glass vases to add more to the vintage look. It was really simple yet beautiful.

We made 6 diaper cakes - got some ideas off of pinterest but made them my own.
I love how they turned out!

I made some activities for the shower...nothing crazy but definitely added a little somethin extra! At each place setting we set a pen and the pink card that each guest filled out for Laura to take home. In between the lunch and the dessert we played the game "What Baby Item" - in which the guests had 3 minutes to try and name a baby item that the mom-to-be had written on her list from A-Z.
We had a 4 way tie!

Oh!!! Did I mention that my mom was in charge of the lovely food that was served. I can't believe I didn't snap a picture of it - it looked so lovely. She plated and we hand served all the guests a beautiful plate of a mexican take on a chicken salad and 3 different size cutouts of star shaped watermelon. It was really awesome and my mom is so talented at stuff like that! We definitely had a lot of fun together making this happen. :)

Here's a look at the beautiful momma to be and me! Love you!

My momma and I ...what a team!
